SLS’ Jupiter OLS systems captured multi-angle videos of two negative polarity lightning events that directly attached to the LC-39B lightning protection system during the Artemis I launch countdown on August 27, 2022. Click “Read More” to watch.
The first event was a single-stroke flash with peak current of approximately -60 kA.
The second event was a three-stroke flash with similar peak current of about -60 kA.
Second direct strike to LC-39B lightning protection system during the Artemis I launch countdown. This event had an extended continuing current period following the second return stroke.
