JUPITER OLS/TMS INSTALLED AT LAUNCH COMPLEX 46 FOR ORION AA-2 MISSION

SLS was contracted by NASA to provide precision lightning detection/location services for the upcoming Orion Ascent Abort 2 (AA-2) Mission, which will fly from the newly renovated Launch Complex 46 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.  The AA-2 mission will test the critical launch abort system that will carry astronauts inside the Orion crew capsule to safety in the event of vehicle malfunction.  SLS deployed two Jupiter OLS high-speed video monitoring systems around the LC-46 pad perimeter in addition to a Jupiter TMS transient monitoring system to measure and record magnetic fields in immediate proximity to the vehicle’s critical avionics and control buses.  SLS’ Jupiter systems will provide continuous lightning monitoring for the AA-2 mission from initial motor and vehicle stacking through launch.
